Why do they make me turn off electrical appliances in a plane?

Well, this is going to be my personal opinion - its my thoughts. If someone out their knows different, then sure, let me know, I will add it to this page.

But my opinion of  what can my electrical appliance do to a plane?

Lets talk about a mobile phone. We all know they are not allowed to be switched on, when you are on a plane.

Here is the scary part.

A mobile phone emits a barely amplified signal, maybe one watt if you are lucky.

The radar systems that are used, through out up to KILOwatts of microwaves aimed straight at the plane.

My question is, how is a mobile phone going to affect a plane? When there radar systems don't.
